Born in Morton, Washington, Gene
Amondson spent his early years in a logging camp near
Mount Rainier with summers spent in Alaskan logging
camps and villages which provided inspiration for his
oil paintings of Alaskan landscapes. Amondson began oil
painting while in college in Oregon and continued to
study and teach art while earning his Master's degree in
Kentucky. He studied under Sergei Bongart and Fred
Oldfield which inspired his use of rich colors in his
oil paintings. Rolf Lindberg, Sweden's foremost "Troll
Artist," gave him an outlet for his sense of humor in
his whimsical watercolors. Amondson's original oil
paintings can be seen throughout Alaska and the
Northwest.
