Local Alaskan Pottery

by

Libby Berezin & Leola Rutherford

Elizabeth (Libby) Berezin

Clay artist Elizabeth Berezin moved to Alaska with her husband in 1975 after completing a B.A. In literature.

Elizabeth makes wheel-thrown pottery and hand-built pottery of stoneware clay.  Much of her work is functional tableware, but she also enjoys constructing sculptures and wall pieces.  Though largely self-taught, she has attended college art classes and workshops with national and international clay artists.  Her work has placed in many local juried shows over the past twenty-five years.

The Gallery carries a large selection of her work- in many patterns and colors.  Individually built and fired each piece is a one of a kind, but sets may be collected in a variety of colors.  We have many more of her pieces in the Gallery, please call or email for particular styles and patterns.  If we don't have what you are looking for, we can order it for you.  Special orders are welcome, including complete sets of dinner ware.

Note: All of Libby's pottery comes in various colors and patterns.  Below is a sampling of her pieces which are either available or can be ordered in the finish you want.

Leola Rutherford

Girdwood artist Leola Rutherford is a 5th generation Alaskan with a passion for pottery.  She is a Pottery Guild member, certified teacher, and mother of three.

Leola learned about pottery from her grandmother and today teaches pottery both from her Girdwood studio and also to adults with mental and physical challenges at the ARC of Anchorage. She has been an "Artist in Residence" and received several Best of Show and Grand Champion ribbons for her pottery. Her popular line of Sea Otter, Halibut and Salmon soap dishes are each individually crafted by hand and textured with Alaskan seashells. The rich colors of her mugs and dish sets are inspired by her memorable Alaskan experiences.

All pieces are individually signed by the artists. Leola's high fire pottery is dishwasher and oven safe (place in a COLD oven and preheat).
