All of the ivory, bone, and baskets in the Gallery are made here in Alaska. Most of these items are carved by Alaskan Natives, and aside from a few estate pieces, we know the name and village of the carver. All items are one-of-a-kind and are subject to prior sale.
The ivory is walrus ivory, harvested as part of the subsistence lifestyle of native Alaskans.
Most of our masks are carved from whale bone by acclaimed carver, Jim Bell. While not Alaskan Native himself, he married into the Alaska Native community and during his life drew his inspiration from the Alaska Native lifestyle.
Images of Kachemak Bay at the top of our website are by Byron Birdsall, Taz Tally, Ed Tussey, and Jon Van Zyle.
